A tenth of Maine is covered by water; with the trifecta of saltwater, standing water, and whitewater that is more than enough of the liquid stuff to enjoy yourself no matter where you put in. Fortunately, you don’t need to be seasoned paddler to enjoy the majority of the waterways, and most of the choice locations are easy to access and are a short drive off the main thoroughfares.  One just needs gusto, a canoe, kayak or a stand-up paddle board and a bit of knowledge on where to go. And rest assure, there are plenty of outfitters that offer everything you need.

Touring the Maine Coast - What To See

I live and work in Portland, Maine but am sometimes called up north along the mid-coast for meetings with clients. My extended family has been vacationing all up the mid-coast for years, so I am familiar with all the trappings Maine coast has to offer. Yet, no matter how many times I make the trip north, I am always astounded by the grandeur of this lovely state.

In an area well-known for its natural beauty and many opportunities for outdoor recreation–there’s a lot of hiking, biking, kayaking, and boating going on around here in the summer–our state parks are one of our prime resources. Seven state parks are located within a half-hour of Camden, and each offers something unique to visitors.
