Rustic & Unique, This Cottage is a Vacationer's Dream
A complete rebuild of Carden Cottage took place in 2008. The owners added baths, complete new floor plan, large wrap-around porch in keeping with the architectural integrity of the typical (not so typical) Bayside cottage. If you are looking for an authentic rustic but completely restored summer cottage for your vacation, Carden Cottage is hard to beat, anywhere on the Maine coast!
Features & Floorplan
Entering through the antique turquoise painted front door, you are welcomed by a comfortable and well-furnished living/dining area with white-washed walls and ceilings and painted wood floors. Nicely appointed, the living area has many windows and large French doors that overlook Penobscot Bay. A gas fired stove provides warmth on cool evenings.
The galley kitchen is just off the dining/living area and has a dishwasher. There are water views for the chef, while preparing dinner that will be served on the covered porch! A small deck right off the kitchen is just large enough for the gas grill.
The downstairs bathroom with full-size standing shower, it is accessed through the kitchen or the first floor family room. This light and bright room has a queen sofa bed, overstuffed chair and a bookshelf with games, and puzzles & TV. It provides a comfortable spare room for those who don't want to head up and down the stairs.
On the second floor, just to the right at the top of the stairs is the double bedroom with interesting exposed rafters showing the details of some of the gables that add to the architectural elements of this cottage.
Rustic but restored to preserve its architectural integrity,
Carden Cottage is a vacationer's dream – guests will
fall in love with the large, wrap-around porch.
Heading in the opposite direction in the upstairs hall, a full-size stackable washer/dryer leads to another full bathroom with tub/shower. Accessed by either the bathroom or the hallway is a small but very sweet twin bedroom with a window next to the bed facing the water.
Out in the hall is the entry to the king bedroom. It has a double set of windows providing you with a gorgeous water view. All rafters and gables were left uncovered showing the complexity of roof lines adding to the cottage feel. Walls and ceilings are whitewashed and has a ceiling fan in place to keep the room fresh and cool.
The sizable wrap-around porch will keep you from wanting to wander away from the cottage! The views are fantastic north to Belfast and east to Islesboro Island, Sears Island, Blue Hill and beyond. A dining/seating area faces the ocean with comfortable furnishings, a mahogany planked deck, white painted railings and attractive rafter overhangs. Afternoon showers will not force you indoors as you watch the weather move over the bay. Learn more about Carden cottage at www.cardencottage.com.
